Bets Dressed - Week 9 - Thursday Night Football Uniform Matchup and Player Props

We’re coming down off the Week 8 high with a somewhat underwhelming Week 9. But there’s still some hidden gems. Admittedly, the Thursday Night Football uniform matchup is nothing to write home about. But a rising star has our attention: Will Levis aka Billy Jeans aka Mr. Banana Peel aka The Mayonnaise Man.

Ladies and gentlemen, the Three Rivers of Mayo Bowl!

A quick note on methodology.

As always, I’m analyzing every NFL uniform matchup and picking a winner against the spread based on who dresses best. And just because a team is ranked higher in the Uniform Wardrobe Power Rankings doesn’t mean it will automatically win the uniform matchup. It’s what you wear in the instant matchup that counts.

Looking back at Week 8.

Last week’s excellent aesthetics weren’t the only gifts from the Uniform Gods. 9-6-1 and back on track. 53-65-4 on the year. Let’s keep moving in the right direction.

The Steelers were always going to be the pick here, but kudos to the Titans for rocking the best primary outfit possible for a road trip to Pittsburgh. The powder blue pants are a sharp complement to the black and yellow of the Steelers. With that being said, if we were going to get a color-on-color Oilers game against a team with a black uniform, why couldn’t it have been this one?

Take a bow, Will Levis.* What a debut performance. But it’s one thing to shred the Falcons at home and another to light up the night’s sky in Pittsburgh. The Steelers are going to need to flex their defensive muscles to take care of business at home. As impressive as Levis was in his debut, all eyes in Pittsburgh will be on Derrick Henry. The Steelers defense may be Top 10 in expected points, but they’ve been vulnerable on the ground - allowing the second most yards per game to opposing running backs. The Titans are 2-0 when Henry clears 100 yards and 1-4 when he doesn’t. If the Steelers can limit him to double digits, I like them to cover the number.

*More to come in Club SDR.

The Pick: Steelers -2.5

NOTE - The Steelers have yet to reveal their choice of uniform. I would not be shocked to see the blackout uniform.

The Single Digit Revolution cannot be stopped. 3-0 on the week. 14-10 on the season. Let’s do it again. Crazy Eights edition incoming.

Will Levis - Over 201.5 Passing Yards

I’ve been a Billy Jeans guy going back to his Penn State days, so I was happy to see him succeed in his big league debut. Primetime against the Steelers on short rest is admittedly a tough spot, but the number is low. And as noted above, I expect the Steelers to throw the kitchen sink at Derrick Henry. With stacked boxes, Levis will have opportunities to go deep. A couple of shot plays and we’re cooking with gas.

Elijah Moore - Over 33.5 Receiving Yards

I’ve always been high on Elijah Moore. The dude just can’t seem to catch a break in the quarterback department. He has cleared the number in four of his seven games this season. And the Cardinals are a Bottom 10 defense in passing yards allowed.

Josh Jacobs - Over 73.5 Rushing Yards

Sound the alarm, folks. INTERIM COACH GAME INCOMING - the oldest trick in the NFL gambling book. And I expect Josh Jacobs to reap the benefits from a Raiders team ready to celebrate the end of the Josh McDaniels era by demolishing the Giants. And it just so happens the Giants are giving up the fourth most rushing yards to opposing running backs in the league.

Coming Attractions.

Keep an eye out for the Week 9 full slate breakdown to drop Sunday morning. Because we live in a world without an NFL uniform scheduling czar, we’re at the mercy of the teams deciding and announcing their uniform combos each week. Where it’s not 100% clear before posting, I’ll make a best guess and update after the fact for posterity.
