Bets Dressed - Week 7 - Thursday Night Football Uniform Matchup and Player Props

Welcome to the second trimester of the NFL regular season. First stop: the Big Easy. Whenever the Jaguars and Saints square off, I immediately think of the River City Relay - to this day, the most absurd ending to a football game I’ve ever seen. If you have no idea what I’m talking about: stop what you’re doing, go to YouTube, type in River City Relay, and enjoy (or don’t enjoy if you’re a Saints fan or a wrong-side gambler).

Ladies and gentlemen, the River City Relay Bowl!

A quick note on methodology.

As always, I’m analyzing every NFL uniform matchup and picking a winner against the spread based on who dresses best. And just because a team is ranked higher in the Uniform Wardrobe Power Rankings doesn’t mean it will automatically win the uniform matchup. It’s what you wear in the instant matchup that counts.

Looking back at Week 6.

Slightly better than last week but still on the wrong side of .500. 6-9 on the week. And 41-49-3 on the year. Put on your Kelly Green, say a prayer to the Uniform Gods, and prepare for a bounce back.

We’re in for dull, dreary affair in NOLA. Oh what could’ve been if the Jaguars went with teal pants and the Saints brought out gold pants. I’m not mad. Just disappointed. At least it makes the worst of the week decision a big easy one (I’ll be here all week).

The Jaguars* are really hitting their stride. And the Saints are learning the Derek Carr ceiling is lower than expected.** Fortunately for the under, both the Jags and Saints feature solid defenses. The Jacksonville unit has announced its presence this season while New Orleans has boasted one of the best - and most underappreciated - defenses of the last four years. The teams combine to allow an average of 18 points per game to their opponents. If those trends hold, we’ll be sitting pretty.

*I continue to feel fantastic about this half of the my dark horse Super Bowl prediction. Falcons on the other hand? Not so much.

**Buyer beware.

The Pick: Under 40

Club SDR - Week 7 Player Props.

Jerick McKinnon saved us from an o-fer. 1-2 on the week. And 9-9 on the year. All eyes will be on the Eagles and the return of Kelly Green this week. And the Single Digit Revolution isn’t about to let that opportunity go to waste.

D’Andre Swift - Over 59.5 Rushing Yards

After an embarrassing 10-carries-for-18-yards performance against the Jets, Swift is primed for a major bounce back against the Dolphins. Miami is Bottom 10 in rushing yards allowed to opposing running backs, and I think Swift gets right in Kelly Green.

Jalen Hurts - Over 252.5 Passing Yards

Speaking of embarrassing performances, Hurts had his worst game of the season - and one of the worst of his career - against the Jets. It’s been an off year overall, and I really expected him to sort things out with the Jets dressing only four corners (and none of their starters). But this dude is a gamer, and Dolphins-Eagles on Sunday Night Football will feature the brightest lights of the young season. I expect Hurts to rise to the occasion in a shootout.

DeVonta Smith - Over 0.5 Touchdowns

After scoring a touchdown in Weeks 1 and 2, Smith has gone cold. We can throw out some stats but sometimes it just comes down to feel. The Slim Reaper - decked out in Kelly Green - is due.

Coming Attractions.

Keep an eye out for the Week 7 full slate breakdown to drop Sunday morning. Because we live in a world without an NFL uniform scheduling czar, we’re at the mercy of the teams deciding and announcing their uniform combos each week. Where it’s not 100% clear before posting, I’ll make a best guess and update after the fact for posterity.
