Bets Dressed - Week 4 - Thursday Night Football Uniform Matchup and Player Props

Not sure how I feel about already being at Week 4. This NFL year is already zooming by. But you know what they say - time flies when you’re having fun. And this NFL season has been a blast - aesthetically and otherwise.

The Lions are known for Honolulu blue. The Packers are known for cheese heads. Ladies and gentlemen, the Honolulu Cheddar Bowl!

A quick note on methodology.

As always, I’m analyzing every NFL uniform matchup and picking a winner against the spread based on who dresses best. And just because a team is ranked higher in the Uniform Wardrobe Power Rankings doesn’t mean it will automatically win the uniform matchup. It’s what you wear in the instant matchup that counts.

Looking back at Week 3.

What a week. And what a way to power through to the better side of .500. 10-5-1 last week brings us to 25-21-2 on the season.

We’ve officially reached disturbing trend territory with the Lions and the Dick’s Sporting Goods white practice pants. I’m starting to worry there’s going to be a straight line from Detroit’s Week 18 upset of Green Bay last season to the Lions wearing these white pants in a Super Bowl. Glass half full: this should be the easiest choice of the week. Packers all the way.

Jordan Love was a nice story the first two weeks in the season, but now I’m fully drinking the Kool-Aid. After falling into a 17-0 hole against the Saints, Love and the Packers stormed back with 18 unanswered points for the biggest fourth quarter comeback in Green Bay history. Speaking of nice stories, the NFL darling Lions are coming off their most dominant performance of the season and look like bona fide Super Bowl contenders.* This one should be a slugfest in a near pick’em between NFC North rivals. The Packers will have revenge on their minds after the Lions kept them out of the playoffs in Week 18 last year. And I like their chances to win outright.

*Outside of the 49ers and Eagles, the Lions have been the best team in the NFC three weeks into the season.

The Pick: Packers +1.5

Club SDR - Week 4 Player Props.

Thank you to Jordan Addison, James Conner, and Kenny Pickett for delivering our first 3-0 prop week of the season. 5-4 on the year. Let’s keep the positive trend growing with a new group of Single Digit Revolutionaries.

Amari Cooper - Over 59.5 Receiving Yards

Cooper is averaging 81 receiving yards per game this season. And he averaged 66 yards against the Ravens last season. Sure, this feels like a sucker line. But I’m going to spring the trap with a smile on my face.

James Cook - Over 54.5 Rushing Yards

Don’t look now, but James Cook is quietly one of the most productive running backs in the NFL. Tied for second in yards per carry (minimum 25 rushes). Third in rushing yards. Tied for fourth in 20+ yard rushes. And tied for tenth in first down rushes. Not too shabby for the second-year man from Georgia. I think he keeps the party going in the game of the week against the Dolphins.

Dak Prescott - Over 233.5 Passing Yards

Coming off a rough outing in Arizona, I expect Dak to bounce back in a major way. Sure, the Patriots have one of the best defenses in football. But Bill Belichick is notorious for taking away a team’s best offensive weapon and forcing someone else to beat him. Right now, that person in Dallas is Tony Pollard. With New England focused on the Cowboys potent ground game, I like Dak to clear the number.

Coming Attractions.

Keep an eye out for the Week 4 full slate breakdown to drop Sunday morning. Because we live in a world without an NFL uniform scheduling czar, we’re at the mercy of the teams deciding and announcing their uniform combos each week. Where it’s not 100% clear before posting, I’ll make a best guess and update after the fact for posterity.
