Bets Dressed - Week 4 - Thursday Night Football Uniform Matchup and Fantasy Plays

It's the moment we've all been waiting for. An icy white night in Cincinnati as the Dolphins visit the Bengals for the first ever appearance of the White Bengal helmet.

White Tigers, Cheetahs, and Penguins, oh my. Ladies and gentlemen, the Zoology Bowl!

A quick note on methodology.

As always, I’m analyzing every NFL uniform matchup and picking a winner against the spread based on who dresses best. And just because a team’s wardrobe is ranked higher in the Power Rankings doesn’t mean that it will automatically win the uniform matchup. It’s what you wear in the instant matchup that counts.

And don’t forget the Triple Mismatch Club wrinkle. I’m making three unit plays whenever the best dressed team in the matchup is a member of the Club (different colored helmet, jersey, and pants). And nine unit plays if both members of the week’s best matchup are members.

Week 3 Recap.

Before we get to Thursday Night Football and Week 4 Fantasy Plays, let’s revisit Week 3:

After back to back 7-9 weeks, we have a sliver of improvement: 7-8-1. Baby steps! At least we're moving in the right direction. Keep faith in the uniform gods, and let's blow things wide open this week.

Thursday Night Football Uniform Matchup.

One of my guiding principles when it comes to sports uniforms is "give the people what they want." I've said it before, and I'll say it again: hats off to the Cincinnati Bengals for listening to what their fanbase was clamoring for and delivering in a major way. These White Bengal outfits (and field design) look sharp.* I cannot wait to see how these bad boys look on the screen. And then we have the Dolphins. NFL Uniform Twitter - myself included - has been begging and pleading with the Dolphins to break out the throwbacks for this one. Think about it: it's your opponent's big night. They're unveiling the shiny new white tiger helmet. What better way to set the tone than to trot out one of the most beloved looks in league history in response. Channel your inner Machiavelli. Unleash the aesthetic Art of War. Normalize uniform strategy and pettiness. But alas, aqua unitards it is for the Dolphins. Easiest uniform decision of the year: Bengals by a mile.

As for the on-field action, the White Bengal energy is going to be out of control. Paycor Stadium is going to be whited out and rocking. The Dolphins come into the AFC Champ's house riding high. 3-0 and the story of the season so far. The Bengals got their first win last week and are going to have to fend off the AFC's last unbeaten team to avoid falling to 1-3. But this is where the rubber meets the road. This thought experiment began to explore whether an aesthetic edge in sports betting exists. I can't think of a better uniform situation and game atmosphere to put the Bets Dressed question to the test. Tonight, we are all white tigers.

*Until this game actually kicks off, I'm holding out hope that the Dolphins are going to shock the world and run out in the throwbacks at the last instant.

The Pick: Bengals -3.5 (-110)

Club SDR - Week 4 Fantasy Plays.

The Single Digit Revolution took a turn in the right direction last week. 2-1 on our plays as Justin Fields and Matt Ryan delivered (in more ways than one as the Bears and Colts each emerged victorious). As for Baker Mayfield? Not so much (to be fair, the Panthers did win as well).

As for this week . . .

Joe Burrow - Over 271.5 Passing Yards (-115)

Ja'Marr Chase - Over 71.5 Receiving Yards (-115)

Evan McPherson - Over 2.5 PATs (+100)

It's White Bengal Week, folks. We're going all in. One prop for each of the most prominent Club SDR members for the Bengals.

Burrow and Ja'Marr are pretty self explanatory. Burrow has cleared the number in two out of three games this season. And the nuclear Ja'Marr game is coming.

And assuming the Bengals offense clicks and repeatedly finds those icy white endzones, enter Shooter McPherson to tack on extra points with ease.

Coming Attractions.

Bets Dressed Week 4 coverage continues this Sunday with a breakdown of the full slate (plus Monday Night Football).

Look for the Sunday issue to hit your inbox a few hours before the early window kick. As I’ve noted previously, we live in a world without a uniform scheduling czar, so it’s sometimes a chore finding out a team’s wardrobe ahead of time. In instances where it’s not 100% clear, I’ll make a best guess and update the issue later.
