Bets Dressed - Week 17 - Thursday Night Football Uniform Matchup and Fantasy Plays

Week 17. The penultimate episode of the 2022 NFL regular season. It's shaping up to be a fantastic uniform slate this week, and the Cowboys are kicking it off in style, debuting the "Arctic Cowboys" outfit away from home in the Titans backyard.

Ladies and gentlemen, the Arctic Olympus Bowl!

A quick note on methodology.

As always, I’m analyzing every NFL uniform matchup and picking a winner against the spread based on who dresses best. And just because a team’s wardrobe is ranked higher in the Power Rankings doesn’t mean that it will automatically win the uniform matchup. It’s what you wear in the instant matchup that counts.

And don’t forget the Triple Mismatch Club wrinkle. I’m making three unit plays whenever the best dressed team in the matchup is a member of the Club (different colored helmet, jersey, and pants). And nine unit plays if both members of the week’s best matchup are members.

Week 16 Recap.

Before we discuss Thursday Night Football and Week 17 Fantasy Plays, let's take a look back at Christmas Week.

14-4. Our best week of the year. The Steelers moneyline and Super Tease bonus bets came through in a big way. Wish every week was Christmas Week. Let's keep the holiday cheer going through the New Year.

Thursday Night Football Uniform Matchup.

A tale of two uniforms on Thursday Night Football. The Cowboys are set to unveil their fantastic icy whites. And the Titans are still stuck in their navy bodysuits. The Cowboys have worn these uniforms before,* but this is the first time they'll be paired with a white helmet. Starting off Week 17 with an easy one: Cowboys in a landslide.

Speaking of landslides, this one might get out of hand fast. The postseason fate of the Titans will be decided next week in a loser-goes-home showdown against the Jaguars, so they have nothing to play for tonight. Tennessee superstars Derrick Henry and Jeffery Simmons are out (plus four other defensive starters). After their victory over the Eagles on Christmas Eve, the Cowboys still have an outside shot at the NFC East crown. If they win out and the Eagles lose out, Dallas will take the division. While that is unlikely, the Cowboys will be fully committed to taking care of business tonight. Let's hope that includes a cover.

*It's always funs when the stars on the shoulders make an appearance.

The Pick: Cowboys -12 (-110)

Club SDR - Week 17 Fantasy Plays.

Opposite Week didn't go quite as planned. The Ugly Number Emporium delivered a 1-2 week as Evan Engram and Darius Slayton cleared their numbers with ease. Back to the Single Digit Revolution. We're going with a trio of road warriors in Week 17.

Dak Prescott - Over 1.5 Passing Touchdowns (-115)

Dak Prescott has a dream matchup this fantasy championship week. The Titans are giving up the second most passing yards and the fourth most passing touchdowns to opposing quarterbacks this season. Add in the five defensive starters that are expected to be out, and Prescott might set the night sky on fire. The only real concern is whether Dak gets pulled if the lead gets out of hand. As such, I'm leaning toward touchdowns over yards. He's cleared the number in seven of his last eight games. And Tennessee is the ideal opponent to keep that trend alive.

Justin Fields - Over 71.5 Rushing Yards (-115)

Justin Fields enters Week 17 with the third most rushing yards by a quarterback in an NFL season and only 195 yards away from Lamar Jackson's record. Fields went off for 147 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns against the Lions back in Week 10. And Detroit is giving up the most rushing yards per game to opposing quarterbacks this season. Giddy up, Justin.

Russell Wilson - Over 220.5 Passing Yards (-115)

I know what you're thinking. Russell Wilson? In this economy? But I have three words in response: interim coach game. Throw out the past in an interim coach game. Like Mia Wallace in Pulp Fiction, it's a shot of adrenaline to the heart. And don't forget that Russ had his best game of the season against the Chiefs just a few weeks ago - passing for 247 yards and a season-high three touchdown passes. I think the Broncos will keep this matchup closer than expected, and I expect Wilson's arm to make it happen.

Coming Attractions.

Bets Dressed Week 17 coverage continues this Sunday with a breakdown of the full slate (plus Monday Night Football).

Look for the Sunday issue to hit your inbox prior to the early window kickoff. As I’ve noted previously, we live in a world without a uniform scheduling czar, so it’s sometimes a chore finding out a team’s wardrobe ahead of time. In instances where it’s not 100% clear, I’ll make a best guess and update the issue later.
