Bets Dressed - Week 10 - Thursday Night Football Uniform Matchup and Fantasy Plays

Week 10 is here. We've reached double digits. And we're officially on the downslope of the regular season. Nine weeks down with nine weeks to go. And what better way to start the second half of the season than with an absolute gem of a uniform matchup slate this week. Well, at least once we get through this blacked out bump in the road tonight.

Strap on your black helmets. Ladies and gentlemen, the Blackhat Bowl!

A quick note on methodology.

As always, I’m analyzing every NFL uniform matchup and picking a winner against the spread based on who dresses best. And just because a team’s wardrobe is ranked higher in the Power Rankings doesn’t mean that it will automatically win the uniform matchup. It’s what you wear in the instant matchup that counts.

And don’t forget the Triple Mismatch Club wrinkle. I’m making three unit plays whenever the best dressed team in the matchup is a member of the Club (different colored helmet, jersey, and pants). And nine unit plays if both members of the week’s best matchup are members.

Week 9 Recap.

Before we dive into Thursday Night Football and Week 10 Fantasy Plays, let’s revisit Week 9:

6-6-1. Hello .500 my old friend. At the halfway point of the season, we're 65-68-3 overall. The aesthetic edge still eludes us, but it's right there for the taking in the second half stretch. I feel a big week coming.

Thursday Night Football Uniform Matchup.

For the first time in franchise history, the Carolina Panthers will be wearing a helmet that isn't silver. The Panthers are the next of many teams this season introducing a black alternate helmet. And for reasons that I'll never understand but are all too predictable, they're pairing it with their all-black uniform. The black helmet with the blue jersey would be a sneaky elite uniform, but the black bodysuit just doesn't do it for me. This may come as a shock, but I'm going with the Falcons tonight. Give me bad icy whites over bad bodysuits any day.

Only two weeks ago, these two teams met for one of the wildest and most exciting games of the season. The Panthers were DJ Moore's helmet and two Eddy Pineiro kicks away from pulling off the upset on the road. But the Falcons prevailed then and are the better team now. Winning by a field goal or more and securing a season sweep of the stalled out Panthers should be well within their capabilities.

The Pick: Falcons -2.5 (-110)

Club SDR - Week 10 Fantasy Plays.

Tua came through last week. But Dalvin Cook and Gerald Everett left us hanging for a 1-2 week. Keeping with our .500 tendencies, we're 13-13 on the year. Onward and upward.

Sam Ehlinger - Over 33.5 Rushing Yards (-110)

I couldn't resist picking a Colt in light of the Jeff Saturday interim coach news out of Indianapolis. I have no idea what Jim Irsay is thinking.* But I've always liked Saturday.** One of the all-time great moments caught on tape is the famous clip of Saturday arguing with his quarterback, Peyton Manning, about the team's need to run the ball more. To which Peyton replied: "Hey! Quit calling the f---ing plays, alright? We'll run the f---ing ball! When we call pass plays, block!" Well you know what, Jeff? Now you can call the f---ing plays. And you can run your heart out. This is the Single Digit Revolution, so with no single digit running backs to choose from, we're putting our faith in Sam Ehlinger to exceed his rushing total for the week. He cleared the number last week. Let's hope he can do it again.

*A cynical man would say this is all part of some diabolical plan to lose more games to secure the best draft pick possible (and to pick the best quarterback possible). Can't say I blame him.

**Both the person and the day of the week.

Geno Smith - Over 22.5 Rushing Yards (-110)

The Geno Smith experience has been an electric factory this season. The Seahawks are legitimately good. And Smith is a major reason why. His success in the passing game is getting the headlines, but he's quietly had success on the ground as well. Smith is averaging 30 rushing yards per game in his last six games. And the Buccaneers are giving up 26 rushing yards per game to opposing quarterbacks during that same span. I like Geno to top the number in Munich.

Kyle Pitts - Over 3.5 Receptions (-105)

Kyle Pitts has been featured in Club SDR before, but our play was voided when he was unable to play due to injury. So let's round out the list this week with an opportunity for some Single Digit Revolution redemption. Pitts has been an obvious disappointment this season, but his best game of the season came against the Panthers two weeks ago.* And I'm betting on a repeat of that success on Thursday night.

Pitts had a season high in targets (9) and tied season highs in receptions (5) and touchdowns (1). It was also his second highest yardage game of the season (80).

Coming Attractions.

Bets Dressed Week 10 coverage continues this Sunday with a breakdown of the full slate (plus Monday Night Football).

We're off to Germany this weekend. Look for the Sunday issue to hit your inbox prior to the kickoff in Deutschland. As I’ve noted previously, we live in a world without a uniform scheduling czar, so it’s sometimes a chore finding out a team’s wardrobe ahead of time. In instances where it’s not 100% clear, I’ll make a best guess and update the issue later.
