Bets Dressed - Super Bowl Sunday - Uniform Matchup, Picks, and Prop Plays

The big day is finally here. We've traveled the Road to Glendale and reached our destination. Super Bowl LVII. The Andy Reid Bowl. Kelce vs. Kelce. Mahomes vs. Hurts. The top seed in the AFC against the top seed in the NFC. And a solid uniform matchup to boot.

If you're anything like me, you've spent the last two weeks watching highlights of Super Bowls from yesteryear. But no more living in the past. It's the last game of the year. Time to live in the moment and enjoy it.

A quick note on (Super Bowl) methodology.

It's the Super Bowl, folks. Let's leave it all on the field. I’m still analyzing the uniform matchup and picking a winner against the spread based on who dresses best. But we've gotta do more than that for the big game.

We're also going team total over for the best dressed team and team total under for the worst dressed team. And let's throw in the overall over as well for a strong uniform matchup to end the season.

Prepare for takeoff.

Super Bowl LVII Uniform Matchup.

Uniform Graphics by The Gridiron Uniform Database

The Chiefs and Eagles are giving us Christmas in February with this Super Bowl uniform matchup. Red and green pair for a perfectly complementary color combination (unless you suffer from red-green color blindness). All in all, this is a sharp showdown. The Chiefs boast one of the best red outfits* in football and are the easy choice here. But the Eagles** have been growing on me, and their helmet is fantastic.

Like every Super Bowl, this one has been analyzed from every angle. But like most games in today's NFL, it's going to come down to the quarterbacks. For the first time since Ryan-Brady in Super Bowl LI, the 1st and 2nd Team AP All-Pro quarterbacks will be starting against each other in the big game.*** Patrick Mahomes has an opportunity to be the first player since Kurt Warner in 1999 to win regular season and Super Bowl MVPs in the same year. And he further has an opportunity to jettison himself into the Top 5 All-Time Quarterback conversation (and keep his GOAT chase of Tom Brady alive). Jalen Hurts gets another chance to prove all of the doubters and naysayers wrong. Every step of the way he's overcome adversity and showed the world he belongs among the best players - and quarterbacks - in the sport. If he doesn't go down with an injury, there's a strong chance he claims the MVP award over Patrick Mahomes. But after the Divisional Round, I commented that it just felt like the Chiefs year. And it still feels that way to me. The Eagles have the best roster in football: a terrorizing defensive front, an elite set of cornerbacks, the best rushing attack behind the best offensive line in the league, a pair of alpha receivers, and the aforementioned greatness of Jalen Hurts. But the other team has Patrick Mahomes. The greatest player on planet Earth. Consider me content that the uniform gods have steered me to his side for the grand finale.

*Believe it or not, this is the first time Patrick Mahomes will wear white in a postseason game. He's 10-3 in his previous 13 playoff games - all in red.

**More than anything with the Eagles, I'm counting down the days until they reveal the kelly greens this offseason.

***Since 1990, this has happened only three others times: Ryan (1st) - Brady (2nd); P. Manning (1st) - Brees (2nd); and Kelly (1st) - Rypien (2nd). The 2nd Team All-Pro won each time.

The Pick: Chiefs +1.5 (-110)

Bonus Picks: Over 51 (-110); Chiefs Team Total Over 24.5 (-110); Eagles Team Total Under 26.5 (-110)

Club SDR - Super Bowl Sunday Prop Plays.

If we're going all out for game picks, we're going all out for the Single Digit Revolution as well. Time to feature (almost)* every relevant Club SDR representative from each of the Super Bowl teams. Let's ride.

*apologies to Zach Pascal.

Jerick McKinnon - Over 20.5 Receiving Yards (-115)

I expect Patrick Mahomes to dump it off a fair share in this one to combat the Eagles pass rush - especially while still recovering from the high ankle sprain. McKinnon has been his preferred backfield target all season, and I think he's in line for a big game after a relatively quiet postseason.

Jalen Hurts - Anytime Touchdown (+100)

Everyone is talking about the legacy of Patrick Mahomes leading up to this one - and rightfully so. But don't forget about Jalen Hurts. The young man already has an All-Pro season on the books and can add a Lombardi Trophy. Essential building blocks for a Hall of Fame career. Hurts has personally scored a touchdown in five of his last six games, including both playoff games. If the Eagles are going to overcome Mahomes and the Chiefs, Hurts is going to have to be the reason why. Win or lose, I expect him to find the endzone again.

Ronald Jones - Anytime Touchdown (+1700)

Let's be frank. The only reason Ronald Jones is featured in this segment is because I wanted an even number of Chiefs and Eagles in this segment. So we're officially in long shot territory. Despite an eminently forgettable season, Jones did see significant cleanup duty in the regular season finale against the Raiders with a 10-45-1 slash line. If the Chiefs have this one in hand, Jones could be in line for a garbage time TD.

Darius Slay - Over 3.5 Tackles (-135)

Slay is one of the leaders of this Eagles team and an All-Pro* level cornerback. With Mahomes and the Chiefs expected to throw the living daylights out of this one, I expect Slay to have his fair share of tackling opportunities.

*Slay was the first man left out of the 2022 AP All-Pro cornerback room with teammate James Bradberry edging him out for the last spot.

Harrison Butker - Over 7.5 Kicking Points (-125)

I'm not about to spend much time dropping Super Bowl kicking analysis. But let's keep it between the pipes, Harrison.

Jake Elliott - Over 6.5 Kicking Points (-135)

You too, Jake.

Carlos Dunlap - Over 0.5 Sacks (+225)

Sure, Dunlap hasn't recorded a sack since Week 9. But the opportunities are there. Since Week 13, he's playing at least 40% of defensive snaps and is averaging a QB hit per game. Dunlap is due.

DeVonta Smith - Over 4.5 Receptions (-140)

Smith can be the first player since Desmond Howard in Super Bowl XXXI to pair the Heisman Trophy with a Super Bowl MVP. Other than the very bizarre NFC Championship Game against the 49ers, Smith has cleared the number in every game since Week 12. I except the Chiefs to focus primarily on AJ Brown, so look for the Slim Reaper to be the go-to option for Jalen Hurts early and often.

Haason Reddick - Over 0.5 Sacks (-150)

Outside of the two quarterbacks (and perhaps Chris Jones), no man has a bigger opportunity to take over the game (and be named MVP) than Reddick. If playoff games were factored into league award voting, Reddick would likely be the Defensive Player of the Year. If he can consistently get to Patrick Mahomes in this one, he'll be leaving this season with the only hardware that matters - a Super Bowl ring.
